Hi Friends!
There are so many of us now... welcome, new Rosie Rundown recipients!
It's been awhile, but we're happy to be back with some fun updates from our favorite furry enigma! Today, November 1st, marks six months since we brought Rosie home. We thought we would celebrate (and ward off the post-Halloween blues) with six things Rosie has gotten better at in the last six months. Plus, some glamour shots courtesy of Rocky's fancy new camera lens. Let's dive in!
1. Getting Healthier!
After Rosie's dental procedure a few months ago – you'll recall her battle with Anesthesia – she's been crunching away on her kibble with relish! She's put on some weight, and we can no longer feel her spine when we pet her. Four months of good nutrition has made her fur coat the fluffiest and softest it's ever been – those furry pants and fluffy white blouse have never looked better!
2. Getting More Confident!
Rosie is spending more time on top of the bed than under it, and recently her favorite napping spot has been on one of the high platforms of the cat tree that our friends gave us! Loud and unfamiliar noises that used to send her running now barely warrant an ear twitch. The demon chihuahua next door isn't even on her radar. She's more confident about getting around the apartment, too. For the first month or so, she would struggle to jump onto the bed, either jumping way higher than she needed to, or having a couple of false starts before she got up the courage to jump. But now she appears at your elbow when you're least expecting it.
3. Making Friends!
The newfound confidence is also helping Rosie make new friends! When we were gone for a few days in September, our friend Beka and Rocky's mom Winnie took turns helping out. We were worried that Rosie would be shy or hide under the bed the whole time, but she was Miss Personality with both of them, purring and meowing and rubbing on their legs. We've had some other friends over since then, and she's been social with them too (especially with all the treats involved, of course. She wouldn't wake up from her nap to greet strangers for FREE. In this economy?) We always knew she had it in her. Goldfish brain or not, she knows where to get the snacks, the chin scritches, and the "oh, you're so cute!" and "you're so soft!" She. Knows.
4. Sitting on Laps!
When we first got Rosie, she didn't really understand the concept of a "lap" or what "sitting in one" meant. We would pick her up and set her on our laps, and she would walk away immediately, somewhat miffed that we had interrupted her errands. After many tries, lots of scritches and pets and forehead kisses, she now seems to get that laps = warmth and attention! She still doesn't sign up for it voluntarily, but she accepts her fate begrudgingly when we pick her up – but she's purring the whole time.
5. Kitty Communication!
When we first got Rosie, her Critter Energy was off the charts. I felt like we had a raccoon or other forest creature living in our bathroom. Her meows were scratchy and awkward, and we didn't know if she knew her new name or that we were talking to her. But now? Cats can make an average of 21 different vocalizations and baby, she's got the WHOLE range. We know what some of them mean, and a lot of it falls under the category of "yearning." For what? None of us, including Rosie, know. She definitely knows when we're talking to her, though– especially when we call her babygirl. We're pretty sure she considers "Rosie" her government name.
6. Becoming a True Housecat!
She purrs (constantly). She naps (everywhere). She's dramatic (always). She walks across keyboards, she sits Exactly Where I Was Going To Step, she appears out of nowhere to demand attention. She's learning to cuddle and sleep under the blanket and expect an audience when she does a Biiiiiiig Stretch. Rosie is living the dream! Until we vacuum, that is.
Thanks for tuning in! We'll be back soon(ish) with another update + photos. We're looking forward to seeing if she gets even fluffier with her resplendent winter coat!
Until next time!
